Savanna® Real-Time PCR Instrument Connectivity

Overview

There are two standard communication interfaces built into every Savanna Instrument and they are readily available to use. The HL7 Interface provides automated uploads of Patient Test and QC results to LIS. The Savanna Instrument may also be configured to receive test orders from LIS via the Hl7 protocol. The Savanna Instrument also supports communication and management from Point-Of-Care Data Management systems using the POCT1-A communications protocol.

Support for Interfacing – Getting Started

Laboratory Operation

Most of the popular LIS vendors should be able to provide an interface to the Savanna Instrument. To find out if you can interface the Savanna Instrument directly to your LIS, please contact your LIS vendor and ask if they can provide an interface to the QuidelOrtho Savanna Instrument. Your LIS vendor may request a copy of the LIS interface specifications. The complete LIS interface specification is available for download at the bottom of this page . Your LIS vendor partner can provide the requirements, timeline and cost for an interface.

Point-of-Care Operation

For point-of-care use, you may choose to interface the Savanna Instrument to a Point-of-Care Data Management System. These systems provide remote management and reporting capabilities for the Laboratory Manager. They also serve to consolidate many instrument connections to LIS via a single HL7 interface to the LIS. Leading vendor-neutral Data Management Systems support many different brands and types of instruments allowing standardization for instrument connectivity and management.

For information on interfacing to a Point-of-Care Data Management system, please contact that vendor’s account executive or support resources.
